Whaling is not currently practiced in the USA. The country has banned commercial whaling since 1986, following the International Whaling Commission's moratorium on commercial whaling. However, some indigenous communities in Alaska are allowed to hunt a limited number of whales for subsistence purposes under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. **

Whaling is not allowed in the USA. The United States has banned commercial whaling since 1986 under the International Whaling Commission's moratorium. Additionally, the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 prohibits the hunting, killing, capture, and harassment of marine mammals, including whales, within U.S. waters. These laws reflect the country's commitment to conservation and protection of marine species. **

One major disadvantage of whaling is the negative impact it has on whale populations and marine ecosystems. Whaling can lead to a decline in whale populations, disrupting the balance of marine ecosystems and potentially causing cascading effects on other species. Additionally, whales are often long-lived and slow to reproduce, making them particularly vulnerable to overexploitation. Furthermore, the methods used in whaling, such as harpooning, can cause unnecessary suffering to the whales. Overall, whaling poses significant ecological and ethical concerns. **
